Salty Goodness!

On July 23 we had planned on leaving the campsite but I got distracted by jewelry.... YES jewelry at at a campsite.  Turns out one of our neighbours makes jewelry for a living and it was amazing. So, BLINGY, and I stopped, looked, and admitted bought a piece.... but, eventually we did leave for Salt Lake City....

We arrived at the KOA in the afternoon and found out it was Pioneer Day - the day Utah was created so it meant fireworks in the evening but nothing was closed so that was good! We decided to unhitch and drive to Temple Square to check out what we had heard was the amazing Mormon Church.  It truly was a wonder.....  Inside the North Visitor Centre is an 11 foot statue of Christ at the centre of the building.  In the Tabernacle - the way the building is designed - you can literally hear a pin dropped from the front of the building without the help of a microphone.  We weren't allowed to videotape that part which was too bad but it was amazing to see it in action.

Non-believers are not allowed into the actual church building but they have made a model of the actual church.  WOW....  there is a room for baptisms, a garden room, meeting rooms for bride and grooms.....

From here we decided to try something the kids have never tried before - a drive in restaurant SONIC!  The kids ordered the unique milkshakes and burgers and had a great time watching the Pioneer Days fireworks from the top of truck while eating!  How much fun is that?
